After watching Ronald Reagan’s engaging, relaxed, informal-yet-informed announcement, the political dinosaurs mustered the following thoughtful analysis:

  •   A 12 page statement essentially arguing, “Reagan is simply wrong.” – Brown campaign
  • [GOP must decide if it will] “attempt against positions which were overwhelmingly rejected…during the last election or whether it will return to the moderate and winning position.” – Waters campaign 
  • [Gov. Brown] “would decisively beat Ronald Reagan.” – Christopher campaign

Christopher v. Reagan debate: A historical question

Early in the 1966 GOP primary contest, George Christopher--who was trying to overtake the Reagan campaign by charging him with political incompetence--challenged the Gipper to a debate.  However, I've been unable to find out if this challenge was ever answered.  Does anyone happen to know if these two did, in fact, debate?
